I can't believe it! I got the 2nd place! I was excited for a second but I just couldn't believe it. I wasn't expecting anything like this when I participated the competition. I thought it must be some kind of prank, so I asked my brother for advice and we searched and searched until I found this link here. Its on flickr! It says I'm in the 2nd place! Now I'm seriously excited. Although the competition wasn't really big and there weren't many competitors but I'm really happy to get a 2nd place. What an experience! Having a chance to be in the front and some more I wasn't expecting this made a lot more wonderful!

ITAP Week 9 - Development of Creative Structure in Illustration and Graphic Art

Developing Ideational Fluency

It is really frustrating when you have to come with something when you can't think of anything and the deadline is near, but my head is going to explode soon for I can't come up with anything. What I tend to do is google and doodles. I google on some images relating what I am doing, screen through some pictures and go here and there looking at pictures for inspiration. At the same time I doodle around my sketch book think hard what can I do with the shapes and everything else. Slowly from a circle I get a figure, gradually that's how the final piece gets done. Doodles and images, my source of inspiration.

In this sketch here I am trying to design a signage for toilets. Male and female, I thought hard how to make it interesting and my target audiences are mainly students in the Uni and also visitors. As you can see in my sketch, I came up with figures of a man and a woman which I thought is quite nice and elegant but, I decided to leave that for maybe something in the future and tried to do something rather humorous and young. In this signage I have thought a lot about the characteristics of man and female and tried to emphasize on it.

The male I sketched a man standing urinating and for the woman I sketched a woman sitting. I got this idea when I was trying to get something from what people do in the toilet and how can I make this to be recognizable immediately without direct lettering. I thought that the big difference between man and woman using toilet is this and it would be quite interesting and fun to see the urinating signage, you might say man sits too, and that is why i had the female's chest illustrated broader.

Digital Art

MERCILESS

My gesture picture
This is my first piece of art after the previous two drawing practices. Its hard for me to get everything right, I had to erase and redraw, experimenting with colors and I even took a picture of my own hands to get the gestures right. I am looking forward to experiment with different techniques and styles.

Design-A-Lovely-Cup Of Tea

My first participation in design related competition!

After days spending in front of the laptop I have finally completed my design for the Lunartik "Design-A-Lovely Cup of Tea" competition. I gave it a name -Sugary-. Its full of candies and sweets, giving it baby-ish color to bring out the cute sense of sweetness.

Did some sketches before putting the work on computer. I chose the 2nd sketch because its more attractive to me and it is the one i had more ideas to work on. I was inspired by the cupcake mug on my working desk the color scheme is as well similar. Here's the outcome.

I wanted to thank my friend Tiffany who taught me how to use illustrator to construct some of the elements in there. In fact, the 30 minutes tips and tutorial allowed me to construct the candies all by myself.

Digital Painting

Ciel Phantomhive - lady

My Digital Painting

Reference
Spent days working on just this piece. I tried to learn more about shadows but sometimes I have trouble understand how the shape of the shadows formed, so I'll have to study more on this in order to actually draw something on my own, without reference.

ITAP Week 7 - Productions & Outcomes

Hosukai's Great Wave of Kanagawa
Principle 1 - Interpretation

The Great Wave of Kanagawa is a woodblock print by Hokusai a Japanese artist. It depicts an enormous wave (aka. tsunami) threatening boats near the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa.

Later in 2004, John Mayer released an album As/Is and had the "Uprising" created by the Kozyndan. It was originally created at 2003 for the cover of Giant Robot Magazine #28. It has since become the Summer image of the "Seasons of the Bunny" series too. This is digital artwork and different from the original Great Wave. 3D model is also produce by the technologies that enables artist at the time to create 3D forms.

In 2007, Bernard Pras a French trash artist, produced another piece of The Wave. Trash art is categorized in the "Readymade" art movement. These works are primarily comprised from components that have been discarded.

Later in 2009, Chris Jordan collected pieces of plastic in the Pacific Ocean. Chris Brown named this after the Pacific Grye. Instead of paint, the colors are composed of 2.4 million pieces of plastic. The Eco Art is popular in the past few years and also now, in addition this also educates and creates awareness.

Jonathan Wakuda Fischer also had another piece of The Great Wave. Its named "Ukiyo-e" or "Pictures of the Transient World of Everyday Life" and based on the pop art style. It portrays a new urban lifestyle available to the growing middle class. Jonathan's work includes the elements of beauty, fashion and leisure with a fusion of retro.

The bond and the love between the two best friends is conveyed through scenes like Liv buying Emma a shirt, and Emma let Liv to have the wedding dress she really wanted. Story develops nicely and everything works fine, they both booked the date and venue for their wedding which is the place they planned when they were young.

Before
After

They both wanted each other to be in their wedding, so both Emma and Liv decides to negotiate with the other bride to change date. They started a cold war, until Emma sent out her save-the-dates after knowing Liv did the same, they both argued and trying to ruin each other's wedding like giving orange skin and blue hair. Emma's wedding was ruined so she fights with Liv.

Act III

Everything goes on well, Emma later is married to Nate, Liv's brother. Both Emma and Liv were pregnant and are due at the same date giving the happy and coincidence ending.

-Ciel Phantomhive-
Principle 3 - Pre-production - Character Design

Kuroshitsuji is a manga and anime illustrated by Yana Toboso. The series follows Sebastian Michaelis, a demonic butler who is bound by a supernatural contract to serve Ciel Phantomhive, the 12 years old head of the Phantomhive noble family, and in return Sebastian will obtain Ciel's soul when Ciel has finished all of his missions about taking orders from the Queen and including getting revenge on the people who killed his parents. After that Sebastian is then allowed to kill him and take his soul.

Costumes and appearance:
As the head of the noble Phantomhive family, Ciel dresses in long jacket, button-down shirt, shorts, knee-high gartered socks and boots or high-heeled pumps. He usually has accessories like a top hat, gloves and a cane.

He always wears two rings, one emerald-cur deep blue stone, passed down through his family for generations and wears it at the left thumb as its an adult's ring so its too large for him. The other one a gold seal ring in the form of the family crest, used to stamp the wax seal on documents. The rings and canes reminds him of the passed down family company he bears and to take revenge from the people who killed his parents.

Ciel is always wearing an eye patch over his right eye because there's a sign of his Faustian contract with Sebastian is hidden.

There are also times Ciel has the pauper's clothes, a pink ball gown and religious uniform for disguise during missions.

Action:

Ciel Phantomhive plays as a mastermind and always make the orders. He is seen comparing himself the king piece in the chess and other people as his pawns.

During dangerous missions, Ciel is never worried of his own safety as he is certain that Sebastian will come to his rescue. Ciel is determined to take revenge on the people who killed his parents, to do that he made a contract with Sebastian to help him and in exchange he will allow Ciel to take his soul.

Interaction:

The Phantomhive residents

Ciel hired Baldroy the chef, Maylene the maid, and Finnian the gardener not because of their competency in their chosen jobs. but because they are capable of protecting his manor and his family's pride and secrets. The old man at right is Tanaka and has been working in the manor even before Ciel was born. Ciel doesn't interact with his staff much, except Sebastian his butler.

Together with Ciel's comrades they take revenge on the people who killed his parents.
Ciel's happy childhood with Elizabeth
Elizabeth and everyone else
Elizabeth, Ciel's cousin is a childhood friend of his, ever since Ciel's parents passed away he is less interacted to Elizabeth. However, Elizabeth has feelings towards Ciel and tries hard to let Ciel to be happy like before his parents passed away. Elizabeth even decorates the Phantomhive manor and brought new girlie clothes for his staff and for Ciel too.
